In an effort to provide you and your pets with the best possible service both during regular hours and after hours, we have merged our small animal emergency coverage with a local veterinarian, Dr. Gry Wildenstein. Dr. Wildenstein has been in private practice locally for many years and now is owner of the Adana Veterinary Clinic in Freeville.

The two clinics will share weeknight and weekend on-call duties. This applies to small animal emergencies only. Calling our regular number, 607-898-4482, will put you in touch with the appropriate on call veterinarian.

Please call before bringing any emergency to the hospital. Your call will allow us to prepare for your pet’s arrival and we may be able to provide you with life-saving instructions. You will also be directed as to which hospital is on call.

Please reserve the after-hours service for emergencies only. Our staff is working hard to answer calls and to provide care for those patients with medical conditions of an urgent nature. If you have a non-urgent message you may leave a voice-mail message or please call us back during our regular office hours.

After hours, a doctor will promptly return your call after you leave a message with our answering service. Be sure to give the service operator your name, a phone number where you can be reached, and a brief summary of your emergency. After leaving your message, please try to leave your phone line open for the next 10 to 15 minutes so that our doctors can reach you. If you do not hear from the doctor in 15 minutes or so please call the office again.

In some cases of critically ill animals that need round-the-clock care or monitoring (such as hit by cars, c-sections, bloats, etc) we may recommend that the animal be referred to Cornell University’s Hospital for Companion Animals or to Colonial Veterinary Hospital. These hospitals have an emergency staff specifically for critical and overnight care. Their emergency fee is reasonable, as are fees for diagnostics and treatments. During a referral you are in total control of what diagnostics or treatments are performed on your animal. You will always speak with one of our on-call doctors before any referral decisions may be made.

Our emergency service is designed to provide high quality care in the event of an emergency with your pet in addition to giving our veterinarians and technicians more valuable time with their families. We thank you for your understanding and welcome any suggestions.
