Sheep and Goat Services
The Groton City Animal Hospital provides routine and emergency
services for sheep and goats. We can see the animals both in the hospital as
well as on the road via ambulatory vehicles that will come to your farm. Dr.
Baxendell has been caring for sheep and goats since she started practicing in
1991. When Dr. Rosenberg joined the practice in 2005, she also had an interest
in providing veterinary care for these guys as well. In addition, Dr. Sawyer,
who normally is in the clinic seeing small animals, has been willing to see
sheep and goats on emergency during the day when one of the ambulatory
veterinarians can not get to the farm in a timely manner. Our practice makes an
effort to educate clients about the health care of their animals and
particularly preventive health care. Our practice offers the following services:
Herd health consultations on
management concerns such as deworming, routine vaccinations, health
inspections for travel to shows, etc.
Reproductive Ultrasounds for
pregnancy diagnosis
Routine surgeries such as
dehorning and castration
Radiology services are
offered both in house and on farm
Medical care for ill animals
with diseases such as polioencephalomalacia, meneingeal worm, pneumonia,
urethral blockage in male animals
Surgery to correct urethral blockage by bladder
marsupialization
Dystocia (birthing problems)
correction by manual manipulation or by cesarean section
Fracture repair for
non-surgical cases (those that can be resolved with a splint or cast)
Our doctors are available for both scheduled appointments and,
through our 24 hour answering service, for emergency care after hours and on
weekends... In our practice, sheep and goats are considered an important
species. Whether they are your pets or your income, we strive to provide the
highest quality of care for them.
